For the past two years our Service Manger Dára Elliott has been working hard to complete a part time MBA at DIT. Each year the MBA program puts forward a team to compete in the MBAAI Strategy Challenge, a prestigious MBA only competition. OmniSys are delighted to say this year Dára was chosen to be part of the DIT team.
Furthermore the MBA team from DIT went on to win the 2017 MBAAI Strategy Challenge, which was held recently at the Guinness Enterprise Centre. The team held off the challenge of DCU in a competition based on preparing and presenting a strategic analysis of a case study to a panel of judges drawn from academia and from industry.
The winning team was comprised of Dára Elliott (OmniSys ltd), Anthony Duffy (TII), Ian O’Shea (W Display) and Weldon Mather (Maher Consulting). Their mentor was Pat Kenny (DIT).
The case was “Rosch Innovations: Preparing the biggest IPO ever.” and students were asked to consider the strategy as an investor or a manager in the organisation.
The format of the competition is as follows: teams of four register at 10.15 am in the morning and are assigned their own room. At 11.45 am each team is given the case study. Teams are then expected to hand up their case analysis in PowerPoint format at 3.45 pm. At 4 pm each team has to present their findings.
It marks the second year that DIT has won the Waterford Crystal trophy, which was presented by MBAAI President Alacoque McMenamin. She commented: “This challenge tests the incisive analysis, strategic thinking and ability to operate collectively, which are the hallmarks of the MBA graduate – and all in a pressure cooker environment.”
